Westfield: Jettie (Teeter) Jasmin, 90, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at Noble Hospital. She was born in Gotebo, Oklahoma to the late Cleveland and Mary (Bachlor) Teeter. Jettie was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Alfred Jasmin, her son, Richard, her brothers, Clarence, Robert and Bobby Jean Teeter and her sisters, Gladys Hollensworth and Iris Teeter. Jettie is survived by her loving children, Alfred W. Jasmin, Jimmy L. Jasmin, Ralph E. Jasmin, Gerald E. Jasmin, Thomas E. Jasmin, Jeanette M. Jenza and Jean M. Jasmin, all of Westfield, Anna Mae Pease and her husband, Carl of Southwick, Leonard C. Jasmin and his wife, Nancy of Middlefield, MA, Joanne Bryan and her husband, Alan of Palm Bay, FL and Betty Pouliot of Washington, her brother-in-law George E. Jasmin and his wife, Pat, sisters-in-law, Virginia Lancie and Sandra Jasmin, all of Westfield, 31 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in the Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA, followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield. Barbara J. Koivisto

SOUTHWICK—Barbara J. (Leighton) Koivisto, 74, of Southwick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 18, 1940 in Westfield, MA to the late Edward F. and Nettie E. Leighton. She was a graduate of Chester High School and a long time resident of Southwick.  She worked for the Southwick Tolland Granville school system as the Secretary in the Student Services Department until her retirement in 2002 after which she worked as the Secretary at the Southwick Congregational Church. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 56 years William A. Koivisto, 3 sons, William Jr., Barry and Bradley and his wife Kathleen, a daughter Brenda. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, Thomas, Kerry and Eric O’Dea, Barry, Julie and Katie Koivisto, her brother Edward F. Leighton, Jr. and his wife Patricia and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Barbara will be held at the Southwick Congregational Church on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Chester, MA will be private. There are no calling hours. Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Beverly Costa

SOUTHWICK—Beverly Ann (Ploof) Costa, 75, a resident of this town for over 40 years, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield on Monday, October 27, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Arlene (Noonan) Ploof, and was a 1956 graduate of Agawam High School.

Beverly was a former service representative for N.E. Telephone prior to her retirement and later worked as a payroll clerk for McKenna Personnel in Springfield, MA. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Church, and enjoyed reading, knitting, and her grandchildren.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, William G. Costa, Jr., two sons, William G. Costa III, & Douglas W. Costa and his wife Geralynn , a daughter Anne M. Costa, all of Southwick, MA, two sisters, Elaine Vecchio of Agawam, MA , and Sheila Larkin of Southwick, MA, four grandchildren, Bruce W. Jackson, Douglas W. Costa, Jr. and his wife, “special granddaughter” Erin, & Alexander R. Costa, and a great-grandson Declan Costa. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Costa-Jackson in 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sheep Pasture Rd., Southwick, MA. Burial will follow in New Cemetery. Family & friends may gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 29th 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM.

Theresa M. Chevalier

WESTFIELD: Theresa M. (Plourde) Chevalier passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25 at a local nursing home. One of three children born chevalier photo2to Joseph and Rose (LaRose) Plourde, Theresa grew up in Chicopee Falls. She was a 1948 graduate of Cathedral High School. A resident of Westfield for the past 18 years, she was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend Joseph A. Chevalier, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She fondly recalled meeting Joe, a family friend, as a young girl. Joe, seven years her senior, took new notice of “his Terry” following his return from Europe at the end of WWII. The two later began their courtship with Terry sparking Joe’s interest in music and art, and Joe encouraging Terry’s love of animals and the outdoors. The couple married in Chicopee Falls in 1952.Theresa was an avid artist in her youth and in later years continued to paint during her travels with Joe. She also enjoyed music, reading, travel, trips to the casino, and spending time with her pups “Spoofer” and her beloved “Corky”. She treasured her girlfriends and it was with great fondness that she remembered their many adventures, including a trip to England. Theresa was employed for many years with Berkshire Farm for Boys, where together with her husband, she mentored countless students following her certification in the field of child care and adolescent supervision. She was later employed at Berkshire Mental Health until her retirement in 1995. In addition to her husband Joseph Chevalier, now a resident of the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, Theresa leaves behind to treasure her memory her dear brother David R. Plourde Sr. of East Longmeadow, and sisters-in-law Rhea Plourde of Chicopee and Theresa Georgens of Springfield. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Joseph A. Plourde. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews for whom she will always be lovingly remembered as “Auntie Terry”.  Along with many close friends, she will also be remembered by her many “sons” – beloved charges from the Berkshire School for Boys whom she cared for so deeply during her tenure and from whom she received many cherished cards and letters over the years. Her funeral will be held on Friday October 31st at 12:45 pm from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4pm until 7pm. WESTFIELD: Joseph Nuttall, age 99 of Westfield passed peacefully away at home on October 28th. He was born in Sowerby Bridge, Yorkshire England on February 2, 1915. After retirement he moved to Westfield from Halifax England. He leaves his wife of 72 years Phyllis (Bottomley) Nuttall and their only daughter Susan Kingra and her husband Dr. Gurpal Kingra of Westfield. He also leaves three grandchildren Mahinder and his wife Lori of Ithaca, NY, Manjit of Baltimore, MD and Michael Ravinder and his wife Katey of Ithaca, NY and a great grandchild Sadie Alice.The family will receive friends at 11 Oakcrest Dr., Westfield on Saturday November 1 from 2 – 4 in the afternoon. Grace Spillane

Shapleigh, Maine: Grace Spillane, 92, formally of Southwick, Massachusetts died October 6, 2014 in Sanford, Maine from complications of vascular dementia. Grace was born in West Hartford, Conn. on April 22, 1922. She was also a summer resident of Great Island, Lake Sunapee NH for over 40 years. She was a 1940 graduate of the Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford, CT. She graduated from Syracuse University, NY in 1944 and earned a masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University, N.Y. in 1948. Grace was married to the late Albert R. Spillane for 48 years.

She had spent many years working as a licensed social worker for private agencies in Syracuse, NY, Manchester NH, Boston and Springfield, MA. She was a board member of the former Westfield MA Child Guidance Clinic and a charter member of the original Westfield Area Mental Health and Retardation Board. She was active in the Southwick MA community for over 30 years serving as a trustee of the library, on Southwick Democratic Town Committee, Southwick Ecumenical Refugee Resettlement Committee, as well as a Girl Scout leader and CCD instructor at Our Lady of Lake Church of Southwick. Grace was a champion of causes particularly animal rights and environmental concerns. She read at least three newspapers a day staying well informed on many issues. The highlight of each day was a walk in her beloved woods in which she could identify birds, plants and natural signs and was always eager to share her discoveries. The art and writing classes at the Southwick Senior Center became very important in her later years. Grace moved to Maine in 2004 to spend her last years with her daughter and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Grace S. Jacobs of Shapleigh Maine and her husband Mark and their 2 daughters, Eliza and Caroline; as well as her stepchildren: Sharon Morey of Hutchinson, KS and her son, Alan. Shaun Spillane and his wife Bonnie of Ottawa Lake, MI and their 2 daughters Deanna & Sherry. Barry Spillane and his wife Eileen of Palmer MA and their 3 daughters Jennifer, Laurie and Amy; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her brothers Dick and Bob and 2 step grandsons, Paul and Brandon.

There will be no calling hours and burial with a graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford, CT.

Snyder, Marion obit photo 2WESTFIELD: Marion Ethel (Tebo) Snyder, 82, daughter of the late Edward J. and Ethel Brown Tebo, died on October 31, 2014 at East Village Place, East Longmeadow, MA. Her husband, Vernon E. Snyder, passed away in 1999. She leaves two children, Amy Beth Snyder of Nahant, MA, and Paul V. (Robert Payne) of Minneapolis, MN. She was predeceased by her brother, Harold C. Tebo, and her three sisters, Helen L. Boisseau, Eleanor A. Dupuis, and Dorothy E. Hill. Marion graduated from Westfield State College and did graduate work there as well. She taught public school, 3 years in Northampton and 31 years in Westfield at Fort Meadow School and Southampton Road School. She was a member of the Retired Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Retired State County and Municipal Employees Association, and a life member of the National Education Association .Marion was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Westfield, where she had served on the Christian Education Board, taught Sunday School, and served as a Deaconess. Marion was named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and also had numerous poems published. She sponsored the We the People of the U.S. Constitution project for the Westfield Schools. In 1987, her class exhibited the Westfield quilt they made, winning three blue ribbons. It was later on display at the Eastern States Exposition. In 1991, the historical map her class made won 1st place in the First Congressional District competition and 1st place in the statewide competition as well. WESTFIELD:  Juan C. Lopez, 73, of Westfield died Sunday in Noble Hospital. He was born in Puerto Rico on October 20,1941 the son of the late Gregorio and Marta (Aleman) Lopez and has lived in Westfield for several years. Juan was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. He is survived by five brothers, Monserrate, Gilberto, Antonio, Gregorio, and Radomes, four sisters, Ana Lopez, Haydee Diaz , Olga Diaz,and Isauro Franco. Juan also leaves several nieces and nephews. Frederick C. Hadwin

WESTFIELD: Frederick C. Hadwin, 80, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Liverpool, England, to the late Laurence and Lillian (Dawson) Hadwin. He grew up and attended schools in England, and attended classes to become a machinist. Frederick immigrated to the United States in 1968 and settled in Westfield. He worked as a machinist for Berkshire Industries for 26 years, before retiring. He also enjoyed woodworking. Frederick was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years Catherine (Hughes) Hadwin in 2012 and is survived by his loving son, Michael L. Hadwin of Westfield, a brother Derek Hadwin of Vancouver, Canada, and his sisters, Joan Ball of Toronto, Canada and Brenda Law of Vancouver, Canada, and his cherished granddaughter, Madeline Hadwin of Westfield. Audrey I. Giles

WESTFIELD:  Audrey I. Giles, passed away October 30, 2014 at the Governor’s Center at the age of 93. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Mary Louise and Arthur Giles of Worcester. After graduating from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, Audrey went on to serve as a nurse in the Army during World War II, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. She served as Director of Nurses Training at the Western Mass Hospital for 28 years. Audrey was a devoted and much loved Aunt to her niece, Donna Somers Peterson and her husband Everett Peterson of Southampton. She also leaves her great nephews, Ryan S. Peterson and his wife, Jennifer of Southampton, Scott G. Peterson of Westfield and Daniel J. Peterson of Worcester. She also leaves her great great nephew, Dillon S. Peterson. Audrey was predeceased by her sister, “Babe” Somers and her brother-in-law, Robert C. Somers of Westfield. Audrey was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church of Westfield. The burial will be private and there are no calling hours. SOUTHWICK: Kathleen R. (Hardy) Mrusek, 71, died Sunday, November 2, 2014. She was born in Seekonk, MA on September 20, 1943 to the late Charles and Mary (Cordeiro) Hardy. She grew up in West Yarmouth, attended local schools and was a graduate of Dennis Yarmouth High School. Kathleen worked for Verizon Phone Co. in Hyannis and Springfield and retired in 1997. She moved to Louisiana in 1965, Tampa, FL in 1972 and Southwick in 1976. She was an avid crafter, she volunteered for schools in the drama department. She also loved her African Violets. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald Mrusek in 1986. She leaves her children David Jardin of Rhode Island, Mary Benjamin of  Westfield and Kellie Marshall of Southwick. She also leaves her grandchildren Cody Benjamin and Joshua Marshall, her brother Charles Hardy of Cape Cod and her sister Barbara Brick of  Seekonk, MA. The funeral for Kathleen will be held on Friday November 7th at 8pm from the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Robert F. McElligott

McElligott, 73, (aka Bob, Bobby, Gil, Dad, Mac, Grampy) a resident of this town for over 20 years, and formerly of Westfield, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 with his loving wife Barbara by his side. Born and educated in Holyoke, MA, Robert was the son of the late Thomas & Rose (May) McElligott, and was a 1959 graduate of Sacred Heart High School.

Robert was kind, loving and generous to a fault with a quick wit and the best sense of humor. He had worked for UPS for over 22 years, and later owned Surprise! Hallmark Card & Gift in Agawam until his retirement. He was a former member of the Mass. Air National Guard during which he was deployed to France. He enjoyed coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, traveling, especially to Florida during the winter to watch Red Sox spring training, and watching his grandchildren grow up.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara (Skorupski) McElligott, his children Brian McElligott and his wife Cathleen of Upton, MA, and Deborah McElligott Cayne and her husband Randy of Simsbury, CT, his grandchildren, Allison, Sarah, & Samuel McElligott, and Martin, Mason, & Kathryn Cayne and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Thomas, John, Kathleen & Rosemary. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Noble VNA & Hospice Services who provided care and comfort to Robert during his illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, MA. Family & friends may gather at the funeral home from 9:00—11:00 AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sheep Pasture Rd., Southwick, MA.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ: Angelo Bressani passed away at the age of 96 with family at his side on Monday November 3rd at his home in Scottsdale, AZ. Angelo was a beloved husband, father, grandfather (Buba) and great grandfather. He was best known for his easy disposition and loving nature. Hiflags favorite pastimes included gardening, piecing together complex puzzles and spending time with his family in sunny Arizona. Angelo was widowed 6 years ago by his wife Anne (Alonzo) Bressani. He is survived by his daughter Donna Mulligan and her husband Jay Mulligan of Westbrook, CT and Scottsdale, AZ, his granddaughter Ashleigh Ortega and her husband, Gil Ortega of Scottsdale, AZ, his great-grandchildren, Tydan, Skyler and Ryan Ortega of Scottsdale AZ, his brother-in-law, Donald Alonzo of Westfield and his nieces Karen Alonzo of Westfield, MA and Debbie Deluca of Longmeadow, MA. Angelo was born in Westfield and was one of six children. He attended Westfield Vocational high school and received a diploma in electrical wiring and then worked for Westinghouse Electric. During WWII he served as an aviation machinist in the Navy for four years. After the war he was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and Westfield Gage. He is best known for co-owning local stores Pop the Cork and Cork and Bottle with his brother-in-laws. He lived in Westfield most of his life and then retired to West Palm Beach, FL where he was a long time volunteer at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts. A visitation will be held Saturday, November 8th from 8:30-9am at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary followed by a 10am funeral service at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Scottsdale. Edward Dostal

WESTFIELD: Edward J. Dostal, 82, of Mission, Texas and of Westfield, Massachusetts, passed away on October 22, 2014 in Mission, TX. Born in Falmouth, MA, he was the son of the late Edward and Gwendolyn (Spofford), Dostal predeceased by his sister Jean Spencer. Ed is survived by his wife Marilyn of Mission, Texas, and son Michael and his wife Deborah of Westfield. Ed served our country with the United State Air Force during Korea from 1952-1956 as an Airman First Class. He owned and operated Dostal’s Dairy for many years. Ed and Marilyn spent many years traveling the country in their RV. Ed’s funeral will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 22 State St., Westfield followed by Burial with Military Honors in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Robert Finney

WESTFIELD: Robert Paul Finney passed on peacefully at home on November 6, 2014 at the age of 90. He was born February 15, 1924 in Westbrook, Maine, the son of Irvin H. Finney and Cecelia (Lambert) Finney. Educated in the Westbrook Public Schools, he then served in the U. S. Army from February 1943 until March 1945. In 1947 he enrolled in the School of Engineering at the University of Maine in Orono. In that same year he volunteered to help fight the devastating Bar Harbor fire. While in college, he was a member of the Order of the Temple (Masonic group). Bob met Ruth Preble, a University of Maine student in her senior year, at a college dance. They married on August 28,1948. Bob received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1950. Later that year the couple moved to Walpole, Mass. where Robert worked as a project engineer for Bird & Son, Co. from 1950-1955. Then he joined St. Regis Paper Co. in Pepperell, MA as their project-plant engineer from 1955-1966. He became a licensed professional engineer. Bob participated in TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry), serving as chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Committee. He also served as the chairman of the Plant Engineers Association of Massachusetts. When he joined Strathmore Paper Co. in 1966 as an engineering manager, his family moved to Westfield, MA. In 1986, he became the chief engineer at Sinclair Corporation, and retired in 1989. Bob enjoyed ballroom dancing, photography, golf, complex puzzles, Swing Era music, woodworking, and Necco wafers. He was active in the Masons for over 60 years, being a member of the Mt. Moriah Lodge in Westfield. He enjoyed a busy schedule as a Melha Shrine clown for 27 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Westfield since 1967, serving as deacon, usher and parent Boy Scout leader in the church Troop 110 when his son Paul became an Eagle Scout. Robert leaves his wife Ruth and four children: Patricia Finney and her spouse Michael St. John of Baraboo, Wisconsin; Carol Gabranski and her spouse John of Williamsburg, MA, Deborah Finney and her partner Brian Colton of N. He is also survived by his sister Beverly (Finney) Aker of Lexington, MA, a niece and a nephew. The Finney family wishes to thank the Noble Hospital VNA Hospice health care professionals for their skillful and kind care. Visiting hours for Bob will be held on Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 10AM in First Congregational Church, Broad St. Westfield. Burial will be on Thursday at 1 PM in Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook, Maine. WESTFIELD: Robert F. Leffingwell, 81, passed away November 9, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Westfield to the late Anson and Regina (Telepciak) Leffingwell and attended Springfield Schools. Robert was employed as a Laborer for Union 999 in Springfield from 1954-1961 and worked for Sweet Life Food warehouse as a selector and retired in 1994. He is survived by his children, Robert A. Leffingwell of Westfield and Victoria R. Leffingwell of Dunwoody, GA, his granddaughter, Brittany E. Scott-Smith and great granddaughter, Hallieah J. Dearborn. He was predeceased by his brother Richard and his sister Ruth. Robert’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St. Westfield followed by Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9:30-11 AM at the funeral home. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital, 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.

WESTFIELD: Dorothy E. (Adams) Hall, 96, passed away November 8, 2014 at Noble Hospital. She was born in Greenfield to the late Wesley and Sadie (Seward) Adams and was a graduate of Westfield High School. Dorothy was employed by American Bosch and WG Grant and was a Sunday school teacher for Woronoco Baptist Church, She was also a chaplain for the Civil War Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Karlton V. Hall and her sister June Hidden and is survived by her three sons, James Hall of Westfield, David Hall of Springfield and Karlton “Pete” Hall of Granville and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:30PM with visiting hour prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 PM. Burial will follow in Russell Cemetery, Russell.
